Ocean Dynamics and Climate

Our main interests are the dynamics of the ocean's upper layers, characterization of ocean turbulence, quantification of the associated horizontal and vertical fluxes of matter and energy and understanding their role in Earth's climate. To this end, the approach we mainly follow consists of systematically applying recent theoretical results to ocean and atmospheric observations such as remote sensing data. This approach is complemented with the analysis of numerical simulations. In addition to our interest in ocean processes relevant to climate, we are very interested in understanding and modeling the Mediterranean area.
